iPhone app

Do you have an iPhone? Have you seen the photo apps that you can download? I was playing around with them the other day...love em! The first photo was taken with the ShakeIt app. It makes the photo look like a polaroid instamatic camera. The second photo was taken with the Hipstamatic app. I love the vintage feel/look it gives to an ordinary cell phone photo. I am NOT a very good photographer. I'd honestly probably describe myself as a "picture taker" instead, but these apps are so fun!
Oh, that's Ernie my cat in the photo. He likes to cuddle...and drool.

Fried Green Tomatoes Anyone!?!

I don't eat a lot of fried foods, but every summer should have at least one feasting of fried green tomatoes...don't ya think!?! A little horseradish sauce for dipping makes them all the better. Yum!
Fried Green Tomatoes

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 c milk

  • 1 cup flour

  • 3/4 cup cornmeal

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

  • 3 or 4 green tomatoes, cut into slices as thick as you like them

  • oil for frying (I use canola)

  • additional salt for sprinkling

  • horseradish sauce (if desired)

Combine the egg and milk in a shallow bowl (I like to use a pie pan).

Combine the flour, cornmeal, teaspoon salt and pepper in another shallow bowl.

Coat tomatoe slices with flour/cornmeal mixture. Dip into egg mixture and then back into flour/cornmeal mixture. Set aside.

Pour oil into a cast iron skillet until about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in depth. Heat over medium to medium high heat. Drop tomatoes in batches into hot oil (don't crowd) and fry till golden. Flip over and continue until other side is golden and crisp as well. Drain on a cookie sheet covered with paper towels. Sprinkle with additional salt while still hot.

Enjoy!

*For horseradish sauce; mix mayo and bottled horseradish (found in the refrigerator aisle) to taste.

Fred

This is Fred. My oldest pug. Fred adores me! I adore Fred!
I share a special bond with Fred. A few weeks after we brought him home, he came down with pneumonia. He was a sick puppy. I mothered him and things have never been the same. He sits on my lap...all the time. He stares at me lovingly...all the time. He gets away with things the others might not get away with. He's my Fredders. He has huge eyes. He's a tad chubby. Lives to...I mean loves to eat. He's a bit of a sissy. He watches TV. He's sweet. His whole body shakes when he barks. He does tricks. He steals the other pugs food when I'm not looking. He can't jump.

He'll work for food.

He's loyal, loving and funny. I know he understands me. He hangs onto every word I say.
He's up for anything.
He's a napper. This picture makes him look chubbier than he actually is...honest.
He travels well.
He's stolen my heart.

Flour

That's the name of the bakery we visited in Boston last yeek. YUM! I had heard that their sticky buns were awesome so we stopped by and grabbed a few. Double YUM!
They have a cookbook coming out in the fall...I wonder if their sticky bun recipe will be included!?! Judging from the cover of the book, I'd say yes. Lucky me!

My week in Mass

I'm back and trying to get myself organized and caught up. I'm always behind on everything anyway, so going away for a week really throws a wrench in things. My to-do list is a mile long...yet I've been sitting here at my computer looking at wedding favor ideas instead of tackling that stinkin list. Oh, by the way, I'm a procrastinator. Why have I been looking at wedding favors you ask. On my way home Friday night I got a text from my niece, Sarah. She said "Matt asked me to marry him and I said yes". I am so happy for them. They are absolutely adorable together. So...I'm looking at favor ideas just in case she asks for ideas.

Back to my post about Massachusetts. I love that state. Not as much as I love Pennsylvania, but it ranks high up there for me. Probably the main reason I love it so much, is that the three men that mean the world to me spend quite a bit of time there. We have an apartment up there which is why it is my home away from home. When I'm not here, I'm probably there.

We went to Boston. Did a little shopping. Went to the beach. When to Plymouth to see "the rock". Hung out. Ate out. Went whale watching and celebrated my oldest sons birthday. He's 24...where does the time go!?!

A dunkin donuts on practically every street corner. I don't understand!

Plymouth Rock

The pugs laid around all week and relaxed.
Went to Craigville Beach. We also went to Horseneck beach.

Love the new scrabble Cheez-its.

Massachusetts has a large population of Portuguese. These ladies on the side of this building in Provincetown were prominent women that kept the town afloat while their men where out to sea.

I tried to get him to hold still so I could get a decent shot but he wouldn't cooperate. Whale watching is awesome.

A quickie from Massachusetts

Hello!

I was just going down through my daily list of blogs and decided to take a peek at my own "very new" blog. I'm so excited! I have some new followers! Hello, again! Thank you for following me! It makes me feel encouraged to continue on. I am new to this and really have no idea what I'm doing. What I do know, is that I am excited to have finally taken the plunge into the blog world and cannot wait to see where it leads me. So many great blogs, so many great bloggers.

I didn't bring any camera cords to connect up and my iPhone broke (got a new one) so I can't even share any pictures from it...like the yummy sticky buns we had in Boston. I'm having fun at my home away from home an am taking pictures to share next week. Please hold on...please don't go away...I haven't even had a chance to get to know you...yet.

Mmm...Mmm...Mmm

Do you like yogurt? I do! I eat a yogurt almost every day for lunch. I add fruit and grape nuts. I think I've eaten grape nuts in my yogurt since I was 18. So it's been a few years {wink}. I've pretty much been a dannon yogurt gal and hardly ever buy any other brand. Then I tried Stonyfield Organic yogurt.
My world will never be the same! Yum! It is SO much better than any other brand I've ever tried. True flavor, fat free, not too sweet...just scrumptious. Love their website too. Stonyfield Farms
They've been around since 1983...that's about a year before I really started loving yogurt. All those years I've been settling, searching, for the perfect yogurt. So glad the search is over.

A little weekend fun

How was your weekend? Hope you enjoyed yourself!

Ours was productive, sprinkled with just enough fun. Saturday we took my "cute little row boat" out on the Somerset Lake.
We took our pug, Lily along for the ride. She enjoyed herself very much...after we dunked her in the water to cool down.

I spent some time in my hammock...one of my favorite places to be!

We worked on some projects around the house (pics later) and enjoyed being home. I LOVE long weekends!
How about you!?!

Awesome video

Please check out this video. I recently found her blog and am blown away by the posts and photography. This video is something! She is fostering such a wonderful childhood for her children...totally full of memories and most importantly a relationship with God.
